Inspired by Shimelle Challenge {Start to Finish in parts}

This weekend during the Two Peas in a Bucket National Scrapbook Day Celebration, Garden Girl Shimelle Laine shared a video of how she pulled together a kit of supplies from her stash and then took it to create as many projects as she was able. After watching her video for the umpteenth time {really at least three} I decided that this would be so fun to challenge myself to do as well.

I went back to the beginning of Shimelle’s video to take note of what she included which was: 10 sheets of patterned paper, 5 sheets of cardstock, 1 Mister Huey Spray Ink, 1 stamp set, 1 large alpha set, 1 small alpha set, 1 package of bling/embellishments, 1 diecut accent and 1 set of border strips.

After discussing with a friend about being interested we decided to take it back to the 2Peas Community and let it grow and develop into more people taking on the challenge and so it became the “Inspired by Shimelle” Challenge.

If you are interested in participating, the challenge is simple; put together a kit of the above materials and then create (and share) what you create with the kit. You can use the kit to create layouts, cards, a mini album (or albums), altered projects, etc. The sky’s the limit on this one!

While we were brainstorming about this tools came up. Tools are free resources during this challenge as it is something that you would use to create the most out of what you have. You can also substitute something for a supply above if you do not own it {as you will see in my video}.

If you are interested in joining in this challenge, please link up below once you have created your kit and shared it on the internet so that we can all go and check out what you have done. I promise to look and comment on everyone as I think this will be a fun challenge.

For my kit I swapped out the large alpha stickers for a set of Jenni Bowlin Identify Quilted Stickers. I also used Studio Calico Wood Veneer Asterisks for my choice of embellishments. Since I don’t really use die cut accents, I grabbed a fun woodgrain tag that I really wanted and need to use. The last thing I substituted was a roll of washi tape for the set of border strips.

As I was creating my first layout, I decided that since I would be using my Cameo for my titles and such, it would only be fitting to be able to use my cardstock scraps as needed. I didn’t want to waste large amounts from the kit since scraps are something we all have on hand.

Make the most of your papers by cutting pieces out of what isn’t seen. In this layout, the Studio Calico Map paper is only 4” x 6”. I cut it down to 4” x 4” and 4” x 2” so that you could see it on each side which then left plenty more for the rest of my layouts. I used the EK Success Labels punch and Kraft Cardstock to be able to create a unique journaling area and then also use the cardstock for a scalloped circle near the top for a subtitle where some of my stamps landed.

This layout was based on Shimelle’s first layout from her creations and I do plan to scraplift a few others of hers as well.
As you can see this challenge is for everyone no matter the experience level or stash size. I do hope that you will play along and share some love for others as well.

Remember, once you have shared your kit online, please link up below so we can all check them out. Also, later this week I will have a button for your blog available for you to snag. soapHOUSEmama is so graciously creating this for me and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.
